Bookshelves moved: 1
Toes run over: 2
New scrapes: 4
But hey, at least the office is coming together, even if I do have to be wary of stacks of game books now.
No proposal this time, as I didn't have enough time to look for another one.
But I do have a brief drabble/blurb/whatever you want to call it. Though, well, it's kind of depressing. Something upbeat next time, I think.
Not A Day Goes By - Lonestar
She sat back, looking at the picture on the bedside table, trying to make sure that the picture she carried in her mind was the same as ever. Leaning back against the headboard, she sighed and closed her eyes, arms wrapped around herself. The room was mostly dark, only illuminated by light that filtered through the thick curtain. The phone rang, startling her out of her reverie, and even in the dim light, the hope that flashed across her face was a visible, tangible thing. Scrambling for the phone, she picked it up, but when she heard the voice on the other end of the phone, her shoulders slumped. The conversation was quiet, the person on the other end clearly concerned, but the answers she gave were vague and uninspiring. She held the tears back until she hung up the phone, then she cried in earnest. "Oh, James, why did you leave me?" Her sleep was broken and restless, and when she woke next, it was to the phone once again, but this time, she ignored it. Pushing herself up, she glanced toward the mirror on the wall, then away. She already knew what the image in the mirror looked like--make-up streaked, hair matted, black dress wrinkled, all signs of a woman who had completely given up. It took effort, but she finally dragged herself to the bathroom and through the shower, and when she reappeared in the bedroom, she looked as composed as she could bring herself to be. It wouldn't take much to shatter, but at least she was out of bed. One last glance toward the picture, she straightened her shoulders. "Not a day goes by." Her fingertips brushed over the cover of the funeral home's guestbook, then she walked out of the bedroom without looking back.
