Song of the day: Def Leppard, Rock On

Back in 2006, Def Leppard released an album of covers from bands that had a big influence on them as musicians. One of the things they said at the outset was that they were trying to go off the beaten path a bit, and not re-do the big hits, but rather some of the more obscure stuff. A great example is the Bowie song they chose to cover: Drive In Saturday.

So, from that album is today's song of the day--this one's been going through my head a bit lately, and I'm really not sure why. Rock On was originally done by David Essex back in 1974, and covered again by Michael Damian in 1989 (thank you, Song Facts). The Leppard version is a bit different than the Essex version, but it's definitely a good tribute to the original artist, while also managing to put some of their own flair into it.

I don't have a link to the song (though Amazon has a preview of it), but they released a video for this one, so I have embedded it here. It's even better live.
